Este es mi proyecto para un Réquiem Humanista. He reordenado todas las piezas para que sigan la estructura litúrgica clásica, pero sustituyendo la narrativa teológica por una narrativa de la existencia, la memoria y la materia.
La progresión va desde el origen cósmico, pasando por el dolor de la pérdida y la lucha vital, hasta la paz mineral y el retorno al "jardín" de la materia.
I have always wanted to create my own version of a Requiem, but not from a religious perspective.
This is my project for a Humanist Requiem. I have rearranged all the pieces so that they follow the classical liturgical structure, but replacing the theological narrative with one of existence, memory and matter.
The progression moves from cosmic origins, through the pain of loss and the struggle of life, to mineral peace and a return to the ‘garden’ of matter.
Technically, I’ve had to wait until I had access to software capable of singing text acceptably (Cantai).
The texts are taken from Romantic poets, Joni Mitchell, and my own sources.
I wanted the musical language to be accessible, yet sound modern. So it combines traditional harmony with polychords, rotational matrices, Japanese scales, etc.
The instrumentation avoids high-pitched notes, although it does include a harp and a celesta.
The vocals consist of two soloists and a small four-part choir. The text is short, as are the individual pieces, and is sung in English and Latin.
